I really do not care if City Council Candidate Matt Vieira refers to me and others who frequent LiL as lunatics. Maybe I am, who knows? Please see Gerry’s post with an interview with Matt to get what I am talking about.
Gerry has started to post Q & As with the various challengers and today is Mr. Vieira’s turn. What bothered me the most about is not what he said on Gerry’s blog but on facebook. He attempted to smear, yes smear two City Hall employees because he did not like their comments about his answers to Gerry’s questions. He accused them of surfing the net on City time on City computer. He has no prove of this, he simply assumes because the comments showed up on Gerry’s blog with a timestamp that indicated it was posted during business hours. Then when it was explained that no, that is not accurate, he then went on to accuse them of lying.
And please do not try to tell me that City employees lose their rights to speak up because they work for us. Let’s be honest, if a City employee had criticized the Manager, Mr. Viera and his backers would have lauded the individual and called him a hero.
I maybe a lunatic but I am not stupid. This attempt to silence criticism added to another City Council candidates’ call to “boycott” Gerry’s blog and then the reaction to Jack’s “Taliban” comment and the refusal to accept his public apology (on WCAP) and forgive him, is leading me to believe that some people want to silence those whose opinions and public comments are not welcomed or popular.
I always believed that if you do not like comments, you should rebut them rather than prevent people from stating what they believe, even if I am called a lunatic.
So in addition to controlling old media, now you want to shut down new media? I don’t think so.
