BotW, Time of Possession Style

by at 6:12 pm.

So…our first Bernie-less Council meeting, and there are only. Three. Total. Motions. All of them from Jim Milinazzo.

If that doesn’t prove to you that at least 50% of the City Council’s motions during this current term (and previous, too, probably) were because certain elements of the Council wanted to smack Bernie around as much as possible, I don’t know what will. BotW might be in jeopardy - if the Council continues to go easy on Geary, each other, and the new guy once a CM is hired…we’ll have to come up with another reason to mock and deride the city council meetings and agendas. Mock and deride we will. This Council deserves no less. But the format might change…it certainly has to, tonight. Keep reading, because we’re still doing a Blowup of the Week contest!

Here are the three lonely motions:
9.1 C. Milinazzo - Req. Acting City Mgr. have the Traffic Engineer look into the feasibility of installing a 3-way Stop Sign at the corner of Boylston and Lawrence Street.
9.2 C. Milinazzo - Req. City Council consider re-starting the search for a new City Manager in light of the search process being compromised by the release of applicants’ names.
9.3 C. Milinazzo - Req. the Acting City Manager to have the Traffic Engineer explore the possibility of installing a crosswalk at the corner of Fayette/Concord/Andover Streets.

Since we’re down to three motions, and it’s quite clear which of these three are going to be a knockdown dragged out knucklefest, we can’t do a contest on picking items for BotW. So…we’re declaring #9.2 the motion to watch, and if you want to win, you must pick the total amount of time that this motion will take up in the meeting (from the start of the first reading of the motion, to the last words of the acting City Clerk on when the final vote is tallied).

The person who is the closest to the total time, without going over, will win the prize. Yes, that’s right, we’re treating this week’s Council meeting like guessing the number of jellybeans in a giant jar. Sounds right at the level of most of the members of the CC, don’t you think?

In case you want to see the full agenda, I’ve copied it below the fold. OK, make your guesses, by 6:30pm tomorrow night!!

Do you have to be present to win?

    I’m going for 23 minutes.

  2. Lynne Says:

No Laura you do not! :)

  3. Gemma Says:

    17 min

  4. Eleanor Rigby Says:

Do not underestimate the stop sign issue!

I remember years ago (more than I will admit) the CC spent HOURS…YES HOURS…debating a stop sign on Clark Road!

If there needs to be a stop sign in a neighborhood of the city that has a decent voter turnout then everyone wants credit when it goes up!

  5. back central baby Says:

U know I’ve seen some really important items go down or get slapped down in an amazingly short period of time. I think the motion will be spoken on by councilor milinazzo, someone else will say something dismissive and that will be ended with a pass off or slap down motion. I assume most councillors have talked about it in some way before now. With that, I’m taking the bob barker offer of 1.00…. As in less than what everyone else says now and in the future.

  6. back central baby Says:

For clarity, my one dollar one minute bet is on 9.2

  7. joe from Lowell Says:

Lawrence and Boylston Street always freaks me out.

  8. Lynne Says:

No guess, joe? You were only banned that one time due to winning twice in a row! LMAO

  9. joe from Lowell Says:

Hold on, I’m thinking of Lawrence and Billerica Street that always freaks me out. What’s wrong with Lawrence and Boylston? Who puts a three-way stop sign at a T-intersection?

  10. joe from Lowell Says:

I’m guessing “Idling trains in South Lowell.”

There is no action the Council can take, but it’s an issue that a lot of people in the neighborhood care about, so we’re going to get to see how the new Council gets its concern on.

  11. Lynne Says:

Ha, joe…the game changed this week due to the lack of interesting things on the agenda… :(

  12. Lynne Says:

Laura wins! 33 minutes or thereabouts.

  13. Brian Says:

Can somebody please explain to me what happened with
    (C) Motion Response - Follow up information to current parking ordinance?

  14. Mr. Lynne Says:

I think they just accepted the information. Here is what was in the packet. It’s basically just some data and recommendations for what you’d want in a review.
