Hopefully you’ve had a chance to listen to our Left Ahead! podcast interview of Elizabeth Warren. (If not, please do, we went over a lot of important stuff!)
I wasn’t going to write about this, because it wasn’t even worth the pixels it was printed on to rebut the stupidity, but now I just have to express my snark on the subject. The Mass GOP, whose previous efforts to take Elizabeth Warren (who apparently, and with good reason, scares them out of their Chinos) quotes out of context failed so perfectly, thought they had another winner with their “but Warren used the word HICK! OMGWTF!!!!11″ press release. It’d be hilarious watching the MA GOP implode, trying to desperately spot their next Warren funny comment to hang some fake outrage on, if this Senate race wasn’t so serious and we weren’t in a terrible economy and so, need to choose our next leaders carefully.
So the moral of the story here is, the GOP would do anything…anything to distract you from looking at the issues straight on, because they know they are plum out of ideas Americans agree with. And they know Warren’s background, history, smarts, and down-to-earthedness is Kryptonite to Scott Brown’s reelection chances should he face her in the general election.
Hopefully this embeds - if not, view the NECN video that talks about this (it’s the second story in). Apparently, some conservatives blogs have picked up on the MA GOP’s call for outrage, and other websites have picked it up as well (this is a good story here).
I cannot fathom how this helps the MA state Republican party. All it’s doing is driving traffic to our podcast, which had a lot of really great moments where Warren states her platform. If people stop to listen to what she has to say, the MA GOP has failed utterly. Once again, they spread the good news about Warren’s words FOR her campaign. All I have to say is, keep helping us, MA GOP!
Oh, and as someone who came from a hick town herself, I was not insulted. Yes, I am a hick by birth too. Hicks unite!
[Credit to Mike Ball who has been following all the hubbub and sending me links!]
In case you missed it (and near the end, we ran out of “live” tape as we have a limit of 30 minutes, but the archive is the full and complete 40 minutes), you can listen to our LeftAhead interview of MA Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren here, or you can visit the LeftAhead BlogTalkRadio page for this show.
Tomorrow, there will be a special broadcast of LeftAhead!, outside of its normal schedule. I haven’t been able to remain a regular co-host there for quite some time, but the generous Mike Ball and Ryan Adams are allowing me to jump in for an interview with Elizabeth Warren at 1pm tomorrow, Friday, October 14th, live. Should be a lot of fun! You can find the info and links to listen here. It will also be archived as well.
I will be doing this from Boston, where I will also be heading to Occupy Boston to see if I can capture a little of what has been going on down there. Kind of a totally political day in store for me…so if you are interested in that, stay tuned to my twitter feed (@leftinlowell) either in the sidebar or at Twitter, and watch for some (I hope) short videos later on once I get home and can upload them.
In one hour (1pm) Mike, Ryan and I will get a chance to chat with Governor Deval Patrick. To listen online live, you can go to the BlogTalkRadio page. Sorry, I meant to post the time but as usual, everything gets buried!
Update: you can listen to the archive, with this funky widget!
Our weekly Left Ahead! podcast, which I should promote more here but too often don’t, will host Governor Deval Patrick next Tuesday afternoon (exact time TBA). Once I have a time I’ll list it, but I also to open it up and see what readers might want to ask him. I’m not promising that I can or will get to all questions, since there’s three of us (me, Ryan, and Mike), but I’m always open to suggestions.
Keep it respectful. Hard questions from all sides of the debate are welcome, but questions which are only put in this thread to attack Patrick, liberals, or whatever else, are going to be outright ignored (and also reflects pretty poorly on the person who posted it, in my opinion). Serious inquiries only, please. This is a chance to hear a conversation on the issues you care about, so use the opportunity wisely.
The podcast will be internet-broadcast live on Tuesday (time TBA as mentioned) and then quickly archived on our website and at Blog Talk Radio (I will link to the archive).
Sure, we were hoping to have a victory podcast today with Mass Democratic Party Chair John Walsh, but we’re plucky Dems and move on fast. We’ll chat about what this election means, and what’s to come, on Left Ahead’s live podcast today at 2:30pm. If you miss it live, you can always catch an archive at our website. Join hosts Mike of Massmarrier, Ryan of Ryan’s Take and myself as we dust ourselves off and look ahead.
Our weekly LeftAhead podcast this week will feature guest Ben Forman of MassINC and a discussion about so-monikered “Gateway Cities” - and it will be live at BlogTalkRadio at 3pm today (in ten minutes). You can listen live here.
Edit - there is also a call-in number for both just listening, and for joining in the conversation. Let’s hope that I can handle the switchboard, since Mike of MassMarrier has handed me the reigns…you can find the number to call at the link above.
Edit II - Ok I screwed up the start of the technical switching but we’re off and running now!
I usually forget to do the plug for our weekly LeftAhead! podcast, but this one will be a lot of fun, and informative. We’ll be hosting MA Dem Chairman John Walsh, who has graciously allotted his time despite some of the recent criticism of the new Democratic platform. (Don’t worry John, we won’t totally burn your hide! Just tan it a little.)
We’ll also talk about the new, pretty cool initiative coming from the Democratic party…the Community Organizers’ Initiative. To find out what that is, you’ll have to listen tomorrow, June 9th, live at 2:30pm at BlogTalkRadio. Or else, you can catch the archive on LeftAhead! not too long afterwards.
I know everyone’s getting a kick out of (or thumping me for, take your pick) the concept of liberal blog talkers going on FOX news radio (online streaming and Sirius XM, not the regular airwaves). Well, it’s happening in three and a half hours at 2pm, and if you want to listen in, you can do so here or on Sirius. You can also vote at that website as well, voting begins when the show ends at 3pm EST, online and via text message.
The format and the concept is interesting, and if mainstream media really does want to get serious about user-generated content, I’m not interested in standing in the way. The conventional press could use the fresh perspectives. Today, I get the honor of interacting with another liberal blog talker, Julie Pippert of MOMocrats (podcast here), and at a minimum, you should all want to tune into that!
As most of you know, I'm one part of a trio of Mass bloggers calling ourselves Left Ahead! who, most every Tuesday at 2:30, can be heard live-streamed at BlogTalkRadio, a website which facilitates citizen online webcasting by giving hosts a call-in number and taking care of the technical side of streaming and archiving. We've had guests ranging from state candidates to issue advocates to other bloggers (Elias and sco come to mind) to talk about the issues facing Massachusetts voters.
Well, BlogTalkRadio is teaming up with FOX News Radio for a "Battle of the Blog Talkers" on FOX Across America hosted by Spencer Hughes and carried on FOXNewsRadio.com and Sirius XM Radio. From October 6th through the 9th at 2-3pm, four liberal and four conservative BTR hosts will battle it out (with listener voting via web and text) for two slots each side on the Friday, Oct 10th show, and one winner from each “side” (liberal and conservative) from Friday’s show will get the chance to join Spencer in co-hosting a special FOX News Radio Election 2008 series live from 8 to 9 a.m. EDT the week of October 20th.
It turns out these people are weird (insane? silly?) enough to invite me to participate.
It so happens that I’m slotted for the Monday, October 6th show (2pm), up against fellow liberal blogtalker Julie Pippert of MOMocrats. Listeners will vote for whoever they think did the best that day, and the winner will move on to the Friday slot with three other winners from the right and left to the Friday show, from which winners of each side (by listener vote) will move on to the week of October 20th morning show.
It’s sort of Survivor meets talking heads. If you talk good enough, they might not vote you off the island.
On another note, we’ve been assured (repeatedly) that liberals will get a fair shake on the shows. The format calls for uninterrupted time for each contestant.
I know it’s sort of Crossfire-esque. On the other hand, it’s sort of like a mini debate club event, and just maybe a lot of fun. That is, if I can keep from talking a 100 miles a minute. I hope I can count on your listening, and your vote (if you think I did the best anyway!) on Monday afternoon!
